Viewers Choice Hip Hop Showcase at Tommy's Place – October 24th

Thanks to all of the artist that performed, and everyone who came out to
show support! Once again the artists put on for their city! Double L and
Yodi B. opened the show and set the bar for nothing but good
performances. They were followed up by Zerk and Beat Maejors who gave
the crowd their monies worth with a great performance. Up next was Inner
City Unit who kept the crowd rocking. Finally, last months winner was up
… T.M.O. and the 703 boyz hit the stage once again with extensive
support from the crowd. The crowd narrowed it down to TMO and Zerk …
even though it was a close call … ultimately the crowd chose Zerk to
take home that $500 cash prize! Congratulations once again Zerk! See ya
at the next showcase right?

TIP OF THE MONTH:

Name recognition isn't simply people knowing who you are ...

Its also their knowing what you do. Its associating your name with a
product or service. When you gain name recognition, the public thinks of
you when they want your product or service, they will stand in line to
do business with you. For example, if you need to ship a package
overnight, companies like FedEx or UPS immediately come to mind because
they have created name recognition.

To get on the map, start modestly. Don't immediately think hemispheres!
Don't overlook anyone, you never know who might help. To expand your
contacts, join clubs and organizations. Increase your visibility by
volunteering, teaching, coaching, and serving on committees.

Viewers Choice Hip Hop Showcase at the Cue Club – Sept 19th

Thanks to all of the artist that performed, it was definitely an exciting show! Once again Digg$ opened the show with counter part Buckey Dollar Beale, together they set the tone for an exciting night. They were followed up by Young Daze, Double L, and Dame who surprised the crowd with their showmanship. Finally, it came down to the two anticipated acts of the night … T.M.O. and Super Shug. T.M.O. hit the stage with extensive support from the crowd, and after his 8 minute performance … the crowd was pounding on the walls chanting 7-0-3! Once we quieted the crowd, Supa Shug took his place and the show began. He owned the stage with ease and the American flags his promo team handed out when they arrived were waving in the air to the beat … then the unexpected; Shug took us to the GO-GO … needless to say the crowd went crazy, they were roaring after his performance. The crowd narrowed it down to TMO and Shug … even though it was a close call … ultimately the crowd chose TMO and the 703 boyz to take home that $500 prize! Congratulations once again TMO! See ya at the next showcase right?

DJ Battle at City Grille – Sept 20th

How many times have you been in the club grooving … then the DJ plays something wack and you have to walk off the floor? Well trust me; this was not the case at the DJ Battle. DJ Flow and DJ Thrill HELD IT DOWN! Seriously, if you missed this Battle you missed a great show. The DJ’s took turns playing hit after hit … throwback after throwback … I don’t think the dance floor has ever been that crowded at City Grille! DJ Flow and DJ Thrill took turns playing Hip Hop, Reggae, Go-Go, and Top 40. Once again all the ladies were in the place looking good … and all the guys looking fly.

Red Light Green Light #2 – Sept 26th

Well … we are speculating that the rain held you guys captive in your own house … or just maybe you thought it was on a Saturday instead of a Friday. Either way, we missed you and would like some feedback on what happened?! Those of you that did come out and show support … thank you and give us some feed back too, let us know what you thought!

Myspace … Marketing tool or a place to hang out?

Social networking sites seem to be the biggest thing on the Internet right now, and there are no signs that this will change anytime in the near - or far - future. The fact is that social networking sites, such as MySpace, FaceBook, and others, have given people the opportunity to express themselves, meet new people, and communicate effectively, and nobody is going to give that up. Internet Marketers, large corporations, and even television shows make use of social networking sites. For example, many popular reality television shows have profiles on the more popular social networking sites.

Today, it is estimated that there are more than 200 social networking sites in existence. Signing up is usually very easy, and only requires you to submit your name, your location, a screen name, a password, and of course a valid email address. You can get a more complete list of social networking sites, as well as the 'theme' or group of people that each site caters to and the number of members through Wikipedia.

The popularity of social networking sites stems from the Search Engines. The Search Engines love these sites, as they always contain fresh content. What's more, if you look at the Alexa rankings for some of these sites, such as MySpace, Facebook, etc., you will find that they are among the most popular sites on the Internet. Although you can't advertise on these sites, you can create a profile and include a link to your web site. This will provide a great way to not only increase your ranking in the Search Engines, but also drive traffic to your web site.

The key to using these sites successfully is to create a complete profile that contains a link to your site and an RSS feed. Add fresh content on a regular basis to drive a continuous stream of traffic to your web site.

Marketing Tip of the Month ...Texting to help promote?

Text messaging is gaining popularity as an advertising medium because it is relatively inexpensive and allows businesses to reach out to highly targeted consumers. But you do not have to be a multinational to take advantage of this very effective marketing strategy. Millions of people all over the world have the ability to receive text messages. Although the United States is somewhat behind in this trend, text messaging is quickly gaining ground in this country.
Should you get on the texting bandwagon?

Question of the Month - DECEMBER - December 14, 2007

Question of the Month: DECEMBER

My question of the month is, Is it better to sell you music independently or get signed to a record label?

Well if you are a Young CEO like myself you would’ve answered INDEPENDENTLY!!! Though doing it yourself mean hard work, dedication, involvement, money and a lot of patience. You will reap better profits in the long run. And Folks what is business all about? PROFIT!!! Not sales but PROFIT (big difference). Me personally, I would rather work for myself and manage my account then work for someone else and live paycheck to paycheck. So I say for you Young CEOs that are in the music business to sell independently.

For example if I work for a record label (someone else) I would cut and album an most likely receive $1 from each CD sold considering I would have to pay back my advances for studio time and the producer, the engineer, promoter, manager, A&R, and who every else helped you with the creation of you product. With that in mind, lets say I sold 50,000 Cds under a record label. That would be 50,000 at $1 a CD (after all advances is paid off) which amounts to 50,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

Now lets say I paid out of pocket to put a CD together and went city to city selling Cds hand to hand for $5 until I sold 50,000 Units (Cds). You do the math and let me ask you the question……

Is it better to sell your music independently or get sign to a record label?

Why do you think these Houston rappers don’t want to be with the majors? Because they can go platinum in the state of Texas. All they have to do is sale 50,000 records at $10.

To me $10 a record is to steep to sale a record if people don’t know who you are. But if your can do it, I aint knocking you playa. SHIT 50,000 at $10 = 500,000 DOLLARS

Shit the rap game is better than the drug game, if you know what I mean…
